EGBE IWA Session Okanla (11)

May 2025 – June 2026

The yearly Egbe Iwa Rites of Passage session consists of a series of workshops each registrant attends with their Oluko (mentors) and fellow Akeko (mentees).

Together, the Akeko meet two-three Sundays per month in ile ishona (workshops) led by esteemed elders and experts. The workshops cover a broad range of specific topics that will prepare youth for their new status as young adults.

Each Akeko is assigned a team designed to support them through their rites of passage year and expand their village of life long allies. This team includes an Oluko (mentor), an Olukoni (mentor in training or former alumni), an Agbalagba (elder), and an Aladura who will call their assigned Akekos name daily, affirming positivity and success.

Towards the end of their rites of passage year, the Akeko begin preparation to be evaluated by the community and elders who will test their knowledge and completion of social and academic projects assigned throughout the year. When the Akeko have successfully completed their evaluation, they are welcomed into young adulthood as the great leaders of tomorrow!

TUITION AND FEES

Egbe Iwa strives to keep the tuition cost to a minimum, as our goal is to enroll every eligible child. We do not want tuition to discourage the families we serve. As such, there are several payment plans available, discounts for families enrolling more than one child, and limited (full or partial) scholarships if needed.  Annual Tuition includes a (non-refundable) registration fee, the cost of workshops, midway conference/retreat, graduation attire, and gifts for the participants. Please inquire at egbeiwainfo@gmail.com for more tuition options.

*Registration fees are waived if tuition is paid in full at registration or orientation.
